Water services will not be affected even if haze becomes more severe: Vivian

While the National Environment Agency's (NEA) has said that some essential services, like rubbish collection and recycling, may be scaled back if the haze crosses 300 and becomes hazardous, Environment and Water Resources Minister Vivian Balakrishnan assured the public that water services will not be affected.

Speaking on the sidelines of a visit to a water treatment plant on Wednesday, he said that that water services will not be affected because the treatment and distribution system is largely automated.

Water quality will also not be affected as haze particles that land on the surface of water collection bodies will be filtered out during the treatment process.

He added that while the new school term which starts on July 1 is not expected to be affected by the haze, the Ministry is keeping a close eye on the situation.
