Wanted: Public views on how neuroscience research should be conducted

Should children and those lacking mental capacity be allowed to take part in basic neuroscience research trials? How ethical is it to take drugs to make oneself smarter?

Singapore's Bioethics Advisory Committee is seeking public views on these and other questions related to the fast-growing field of neuroscience research and technology.

It has put out a public consultation paper that outlines the issues and is holding three public talks this week on the topic. It aims to come up with a set of guidelines to govern such research based on public feedback.

The paper and details of the talks are available from www.bioethics-singapore.org, and the consultation period ends March 31.
