In the time before a management consultant coined the term ITES, short for information technology-enabled services, the telecommunications business was all about fixed lines and mobile networks supported by mobile-device manufacturers, and aggressive market campaigns that competed on price and free talk-time.
Subsequently, data, even more than time, became the new currency. These days, the swift march of digitalisation has meant that IT, telecommunications and data have fused as never before.
