Van driver dies after Tuas road accident

A 36-year-old van driver died after an accident with a tipper truck in Tuas on Thursday afternoon.

The incident occurred at 3.45pm along Tuas South Avenue 5, near Tuas South Way.

The man was trapped in his vehicle, and the Singapore Civil Defence Force rescued him using hydraulic rescue tools. He was taken to the National University Hospital, but died there.

He was named by Shin Min Daily News as delivery driver Deng Zhizhong, whose mother died of cancer late last year, according to his father, giving his name only as Mr Deng. "When we rushed to the hospital, the doctor came out of the operating theatre and said it was bad," he told Shin Min. "My son died at 9pm after being taken to the Intensive Care Unit."
