The People's Association and SIM University (UniSIM) have signed a memorandum of understanding that will provide five grassroots leaders the chance to further their education.
UniSIM will sponsor 80 per cent of the course fees, for any degree programme offered at their institution. The courses that the grassroots leaders are likely to pursue are programmes relevant to community work such as sociology, psychology, social work and counselling.
"Our society is becoming more complex and diverse. We need a new breed of community leaders who not only have effective leadership skills, but possess broad based knowledge to tackle manifold issues," said Professor Cheong Hee Kiat, president of UniSIM.
