Some 110 children from 63 low-income households in Tampines Changkat received Christmas gifts such as art supplies, toys and school shoes on Sunday.
This was part of the constituency's Festive Wishes Come True programme, organised by its Youth Executive Committee for the fourth year running. Volunteers had spent a month visiting families to find out what was on their children's wishlists.
The gifts, which came from sponsors such as the Lee Foundation, SBS Transit and North East Community Development Council, were given out at a Christmas party held at Block 138, Tampines Street 11. Residents were also treated to musical and dance performances and photo opportunities with fairytale characters such as Snow White and Little Red Riding Hood.
Guest of honour Ms Irene Ng, who is grassroots adviser to Tampines Changkat and a Member of Parliament for Tampines GRC, said after the event: "Everywhere we go in Singapore you can see Christmas sales and the shopping centres are packed.
"Hopefully this will give (beneficiaries) a sense that it's a season of joy and nobody is left out."
