Two teenagers arrested for alleged housebreaking and theft

Two teenagers - a 17-year-old male and 19-year-old female - have been arrested for allegedly breaking into a provision shop along Jurong West Avenue 5 and stealing an assortment of cigarettes worth about $2,000.

The shopkeeper reported the break-in to the police last Tuesday at 4.17pm.

Following investigations, officers from the Jurong Police Division managed to identify one of the suspects. The female suspect was arrested at Pioneer Mall at about 7pm on Feb 3. Her male accomplice was arrested at a unit along Jurong West St 92 about six hours later. Police conducted a search of the unit and recovered packets of cigarettes believed to be part of the loot.

If convicted of housebreaking and theft by night, the suspects face a jail term of up to 14 years. In a statement, the police advised the public to properly secure all openings on their premises, keep valuables in a safe deposit box, and install burglar alarms.
