Two Singaporeans dead, one missing after boat accident in Malaysia

Two Singaporeans died and one is still missing after the boat they were in collided with a fishing trawler off Pulau Layak in Pahang, Malaysia, on Sunday afternoon.

The accident happened at 4.30pm, when the Singaporeans were heading back to Kuala Rompin after fishing at Pulau Layak.

Five other Singaporeans in the 36-foot fibreglass boat were injured in the accident.

He said: "MFA is providing consular assistance to the Singaporeans and their families. Officers from the Singapore High Commission in Kuala Lumpur and the Consulate-General in Johor Bahru are on the ground to assist with the repatriation of the deceased and injured to Singapore.

"They are also in touch with the Malaysian authorities on the search-and-rescue efforts for the missing Singaporean."
