Two men charged with fighting on MRT train after Internet video goes viral

Two men were charged on Wednesday with fighting on board an MRT train and disturbing the public peace.

Teeng Kok Yong, 40, is accused of kicking 50-year-old Ng Cheng Kiat twice in the leg on a train travelling between Khatib and Yio Chu Kang at about 11.40pm on Jan 11.

Ng allegedly grabbed Teeng's body and punched him in the face.

The brawl was filmed and garnered more than 2,000 views on YouTube. It had also been shared about 2,500 times on Facebook by Tuesday night.

The fracas is believed to have erupted after one of the men thought the other had been making an offensive expression towards his female friend.

Teeng was represented by Mr Low Hui Hui who said he had just been briefed and asked for four weeks' adjournment. The case will be mentioned on Feb 19.

Ng told District Judge Ronald Gwee that he wished to engage counsel. He will be back in court on Jan 29.

The two men were arrested on Monday in Ang Mo Kio Avenue 9.

If convicted, they could each be jailed for up to one year and/or fined up to $5,000.
