Ten large lantern sets will light up Gardens by the Bay this Mid-Autumn Festival. Visitors will be able to interact with the installations by attaching their smartphone to a selfie stick and covering it with a casing designed by lecturers from the Singapore University of Technology and Design. The Mid-Autumn @ Gardens by the Bay app will then pick up signals from the installations via bluetooth and the phone screen will light up in different colours. This turns the phone into a "personal lantern". The organisers will give out 10,000 of these casings on Sunday, when President Tony Tan will also launch the celebrations which ends on Sept 18.
