Mr Hendric Tay, 27, left his teaching job two years ago so that he could have more time to travel.

He then started writing about his travels, to places like Peru and Myanmar, in a blog he started in 2012.

Yesterday, his blog, pohtecktoes.com, which gets an average of 30,000 visitors a month, beat nine other finalists to win the Best Travel Blog at the annual Singapore Blog Awards 2015.

A total of 27 awards were given out at a ceremony at f. Club Singapore in Clarke Quay.

Mr Tay, who now works as a freelance designer, said: "I enjoy travelling because it exposes me to new things and I learn about myself. It is the one thing that really excites me. I'm glad that I'm producing useful content for people."

Ms Low Yen Ling, Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth, who was the guest of honour at the event, said "the blogging world has really flourished". She added that it offers interesting and diverse opinions and inspiring real-life stories.

Now into its eighth year, the competition was organised by omy.sg - Singapore Press Holdings' bilingual news and entertainment portal. The Editors' and Judges' Choice awards were among the categories.

Other winners included Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, who was named the Followers' Choice Favourite Twitter Influencer.
