SINGAPORE - A track fault that occurred near Jurong East station caused a delay on the East-West Line on Tuesday (Dec 29) morning.

Rail operator SMRT had first announced in a tweet at 8.41am to expect an additional 10 minutes in travelling time from Joo Koon to Clementi stations, in the direction of Pasir Ris.

Normal service resumed more than an hour later at 9.57am, SMRT said.

Several commuters took to Twitter to complain about the delay, while user @uwssha said his journey from Boon Lay to Clementi took half an hour due to the track fault.

Meanwhile, there were also reports of delays and train stoppages at the Downtown Line run by SBS Transit.

According to Twitter user@jtww01, the train he was on had been stopping between stations.

Some commuters also said the trains were moving slowly on the new Downtown Line 2, which opened on Sunday (Dec 27). One commuter said the screen doors failed to open at Rochor station when the train pulled in at the platform, causing a delay.

When the problem with the screen doors was resolved, the train moved "slowly and jerkily" towards Bugis station, said lawyer Lyv Meah, 37.

A commuter, who wanted to be known only as Mr Wong, told The Straits Times he had boarded the train at King Albert Park station at 8.30am. While he had intended to alight at Telok Ayer station, the frequent delays prompted him to get off at Bugis and travel to Raffles Place station via the East-West Line.

"I was informed that it was a technical fault," said Mr Wong, who is in his 30s. "It was not a very nice experience as I was delayed from work by almost 30 minutes."

Twitter user @NShaju said at 9.20am that he had been stuck between Newton and Little India stations for 10 minutes.
