Track fault causes delay on North-South Line between Yishun and Jurong East stations

SINGAPORE - A track fault on the North-South Line near Kranji MRT station caused a delay for commuters travelling between Yishun and Jurong East on Wednesday morning at 8.10am.

In a statement made to the press, Mr Patrick Nathan, Vice President, Corporate Information and Communications at SMRT said, "For the safety of the commuters, trains proceeded over the affected stretch of track at reduced speeds, resulting in additional travelling time."

Twitter user @Tx_2171F first posted an update at 8.33am: "Additional 5 mins travel time on #NSL due track fault between Yew Tee and Kranji. #smrt #delay."

SMRT said in a tweet at 8.50am that the additional travelling time could take up to 10 minutes.

Announcements were made at all stations to inform passengers of the increased travel time and maintenance staff were deployed immediately to investigate. The track fault was cleared at 9:04am.

"As this incident took place during the morning peak, there was congestion in some stations. We are sorry for any inconvenienced caused." said Mr Nathan.
