Singapore Airlines to fly to Wellington via Canberra from September

SINGAPORE - Singapore Airlines (SIA) will fly four times a week to Wellington via Canberra from Sept 20.

SIA will be the first airline with flights between Canberra and Wellington.

"This new service linking Singapore, Canberra and Wellington reflects the close ties between the three countries," said SIA's chief executive Goh Choon Phong, adding that the new route will appeal to leisure, government and corporate travellers.

SIA will use Boeing 777-200s fitted with 38 business class and 228 economy class seats.

Flights will depart from Singapore on Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday at 11pm, arriving in Canberra the next day at 8.35am and reach Wellington at 3.05pm.

The return flight will depart Wellington on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday at 8.15pm, arriving in Canberra at 10.05pm. The transit time is about 1h 25min, with flights arriving in Singapore at 5.50am.

SIA and SilkAir currently fly to the Australian cities of Adelaide, Brisbane, Melbourne, Perth, Sydney, Cairns and Darwin, as well as the New Zealand cities of Auckland and Christchurch.
