Bus, train operating hours to be extended on Chinese New Year eve

SINGAPORE - SBS Transit and SMRT will extend the operating hours of their train services, as well as selected bus services, on Chinese New Year eve (Feb 7).

Both transport operators also announced in press releases on Monday (Feb 1) that several bus services will be diverted in the Chinatown area due to road closures for the Chinese New Year Countdown Celebration.

SBS Transit said train services on the North-East and Downtown Lines, including the Sengkang and Punggol LRT systems, will run for an additional two hours.

On the North-East Line, for example, the last train to leave Punggol station for HarbourFront station will depart at 1.33am, while commuters can catch the last train at HarbourFront station towards Punggol at 1.55am.

Services on the Sengkang and Punggol LRT systems will be adjusted accordingly, with the last trains due to leave from their respective town centre stations at 2.33am and 2.31am respectively.

The same will apply to the SMRT-run North-South, East-West and Circle Lines, as well as as the Bukit Panjang LRT system, although SMRT will also extend train operating hours on Saturday (Feb 6).

To complement the extension of train operating hours, the last timings of 35 SBS Transit bus services will also be extended at their respective bus interchanges.

They are 2, 12, 33, 51A, 60A, 63/63M, 80, 97, 124, 133, 147, 181, 197, 222, 225G, 228, 229, 232, 238, 240, 241, 243G, 261, 269, 282, 291, 292, 293, 315, 325, 333, 334, 358, 359 and 410W.

Three Chinatown Direct Services - CT8, CT18 and CT28, will also run later into the night.

As for SMRT, 16 bus services departing from five bus interchanges will have their operating hours extended.

Meanwhile, 15 SBS Transit and five SMRT bus services will skip selected bus stops in the Chinatown area due to road closures for the Chinese New Year Countdown Celebration.

The road closures will take effect from 5pm on Sunday (Feb 7) till 3am on Monday (Feb 8).
