SINGAPORE - Local carpooling network Ryde is partnering insurance company Aviva to offer personal accident coverage of up to $20,000 per car for both drivers and passengers.

This is a first, said Ryde founder and chief executive Terence Zou, as most other carpooling platforms provide coverage through the driver's own motor insurance.

"We are committed to creating the safest carpooling platform, and will continue to find innovative ways to enhance safety," Mr Zou said.

In a press release on Thursday (March 31), Ryde said verified members on the carpooling platform will be covered up to $1,500, while those who have bought subscriptions on the app will be covered up to $10,000. The policy covers accidents that result in death or serious bodily injury.
