SINGAPORE - A makeshift tent was displaced from an elevated position and landed on a SMRT bus in Chinatown on Tuesday afternoon, disrupting traffic for a short period.

SMRT said bus service 961 was travelling along the four-lane Eu Tong Sen Street, outside People's Park Complex, when a sheet of blue canvas landed on it.

No one was hurt in the incident and arrangements were immediately made to transfer the 25 affected passengers to another bus plying the route.

SMRT vice-president of corporate information and communications Patrick Nathan said: "As a precaution, the affected bus was routed back to its interchange for detailed inspections."

The police said that it received a call at about 12.40pm, and deployed its officers to the scene. It added that the incident caused a slight traffic jam but no further police assistance was required.
