SINGAPORE - Bus interchanges in Sengkang and Tampines will soon be expanded to accommodate more buses and commuters.

Calling a tender for the expansion works on Tuesday, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) said that parking bays for another 12 buses will be added to each of the interchanges.

"The expansions will also feature passenger boarding and alighting facilities, a concourse area, offices, a staff lounge and a canteen," LTA added.

The extension to Sengkang bus interchange will be built along Compassvale Road and will be completed in the third quarter of 2015, while the expansion for Tampines bus interchange will be along Tampines Concourse and works will be completed by the fourth quarter of 2015.

The expansions will support the Government's Bus Service Enhancement Programme, which started in 2012, and will put 1,000 new buses on Singapore's roads by 2017.
