Car buyers turned up in droves at the Singapore Expo yesterday on the first day of Cars@Expo.
Organised by Singapore Press Holdings, the second run of the popular auto retail bazaar this year saw more than 100 vehicles snapped up within the first few hours. The previous event was held in May.
More than 40 distributors, pre-owned car dealers, and car accessories merchants have taken up booths for the two-day event.
Buyers were drawn by the promise of great deals ahead of next February, when the annual vehicle growth rate will be lowered from the current 0.25 per cent to zero.
At the bazaar, the price of the diesel-driven Opal Mokka X starts at $105,888, down $7,000, while the Hyundai Tucson compact sports utility vehicle starts from $109,999 - down from $117,999.
Honda, which manufactures popular models like the Jazz and the HR-V, is offering free road tax for a year and five years of unlimited mileage warranty, among other deals.
Mr Narendra Gawali, who works in the offshore industry, said: "I'm looking at getting a hybrid car."
The 62-year-old had his eye on the Kia Niro hybrid crossover, which is going for $106,999, down from $128,999.
Mr Kelvin Lee, 50, liked that the event has all the major car brands available under one roof.
"This is a beautiful platform for buyers to walk and look at prices, and gain knowledge and awareness of what is good with the reputable dealers," said the manager, who visited Cars@Expo with his wife.
There are also deals on car accessories, such as the F800 Pro dash camera set, which is $100 cheaper at $598.
Visitors who spend $100 or more stand a chance to win a Mobot electronic scooter. Car buyers will each receive a $50 Esso petrol voucher.
Today is the final day of Cars@Expo, which runs from 10am to 8pm at Halls 5 and 6 of the Singapore Expo.
