Train services on the North-South line between Sembawang and Marina Bay stations have resumed, train operator SMRT said in a Twitter update at about 9.50am. Free bus and shuttle services, which were activated after a train fault caused a delay, have ceased.

SMRT tweeted at about 9.11am that a train fault had occurred, resulting in an estimated 20 minutes additional traveling time from Sembawang towards Marina Bay. The Straits Times understands that the train fault occurred at Ang Mo Kio station. Commuters said the delay started slightly after 8am. At about 8.54am, an announcement was made onboard a train reaching Yio Chu Kang, asking all passengers to alight at Ang Mo Kio. Passengers who alighted at Ang Mo Kio had the option of taking free buses activated, or they could continue their journey on trains which pulled in at the middle platform.

Administrative assistant Camie Tang, 50, was on the train which broke down when it was about to pull in at Ang Mo Kio station from Yio Chu Kang. "It was about 8.10am when the train stopped near Ang Mo Kio. An announcement was made informing passengers another train will be activated to push our train which broke down," said Ms Tang, who got on the train at Khatib station. "The announcement said it will take about 25 minutes to reach Ang Mo Kio, but it definitely took longer than that. I was stuck on the train for about 45 minutes." Ms Tang said she arrived at work an hour late.

Civil servant Joanne Ko, 25, chose to get off at Yio Chu Kang to take a taxi to her workplace in Raffles Place. "I was stuck on the train for nearly 30 minutes," said Ms Ko, who took the train at Yishun.

IT technician Justin Budhi, 30, also got off the train at Yio Chu Kang station, which is one stop away from his office in Ang Mo Kio. He said: "I was stuck on the train for like 45 minutes. There was an announcement to inform passengers there would be a delay but we were not told to get off the train."
