Traffic Police nabbed 14 for drink-driving in pre-dawn operation

Police arrested 14 motorists for drink-driving and booked five others for speeding after a two and half hour island-wide operation on Saturday.

Road blocks were set up along Outram Road, Lavender Street, Keppel Road, Yio Chu Kang Road and Sengkang East Drive from 1.30am to 4am.

The Traffic Police administered the breathalyser test to 64 motorists and among them, 12 men and two women, aged between 23 and 60, failed the breathalyser test.

The highest result recorded was 100mcg of alcohol per 100ml of breath, nearly three times the legal limit of 35mcg.

Among the five motorists caught for speeding, the highest speed clocked was 102 km/h, above the speed limit of 60km/h.

Traffic Police Commander Cheang Keng Keong said in a statement on Saturday that the police will not let down on its efforts against errant motorists and will take them off the roads if they prove to be a menace to others and themselves.

"Let's keep our roads safe for all," he added.
