Total Defence Day: Singaporeans urged to look out for others and rally together

Defence Minister Dr Ng Eng Hen on Friday encouraged Singaporeans to "strengthen their resolve as a people and a community bonded by a spirit of giving".

Dr Ng, who was the guest of honour at an event to commemorate Total Defence Day, encouraged Singaporeans to look out for others and rally together, "to defend our nation and build a strong home".

Total Defence Day takes place annually to commemorate the day Singapore fell to the Japanese during World War II in 1942.

This year's Total Defence Day saw 26 teams completing a series of challenges starting at the Singapore Discovery Centre and ending at Republic Polytechnic. More than $220,000 was also raised for Community Chest through donations by charity partners, HSBC and Lee Foundation as part of the day's events.
