Tilted SembMarine rig restored to upright position

SembCorp Marine has restored and stabilised the jack-up rig that tilted on Dec 3 to its original upright position during a planned recovery and restoration operation on Monday.

In a statement released on Tuesday morning, SembMarine said: "Following the successful restoration of the jack-up rig to its upright position, Jurong Shipyard and the relevant authorities will focus on investigations into the cause of the tilting.

"Repairs and restoration work will commence upon lifting of the stop-work order."

The jack-up rig, which was originally scheduled for delivery in the first quarter of this year will be rescheduled for a later delivery date.

The oil rig accident that left 89 workers injured was triggered by a failed braking system and was described as one of Singapore's worst industrial accidents in recent times.
