Mr Syed Hassan, 65, is the oldest lighthouse keeper in Singapore. His workplace consists of a private beach lined with fruit trees and an unobstructed view of the sea.

Together with an assistant, Mr Hassan mans the Raffles Lighthouse on Singapore's southernmost island, Pulau Satumu. The island is 45 minutes away by boat from Singapore.

Each time Mr Hassan leaves for a work shift, he has to be away from his family for ten days at a stretch. Despite having done this for 12 years, he still misses his family. However, the time apart from his wife has strengthened their relationship over the years. It has made them cherish the time they have together.
