Three teenagers involved in a snatch theft arrested; one pretended to be witness

Three 17-year-olds who were believed to have worked together to steal a woman's handbag from her in Woodlands have been arrested by the police.

On Oct 10 last year, the victim was walking along a park connector near Woodlands St 13 when two of the suspects came up from behind, snatching her handbag and fleeing. After the theft, a male witness - later established by officers from the Jurong Police Division to be the third suspect, working in cahoots with the two snatch thieves - went up to the victim to offer his help.

The "witness" was arrested on Feb 12 this year in Woodlands, while the other two suspects were arrested the day after in Simei.

The three suspects will be charged in court on Feb 14 for the offence of snatch theft with common intention, which carries a jail sentence of between one and seven years. They can also be caned.
