Three fires were put out across Singapore yesterday, with no injuries reported.

The first, which broke out around 8.30am, involved discarded items next to a seventh-floor HDB unit at Block 18, Eunos Crescent.

It was put out by residents using buckets of water before firefighters from the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) arrived.

A series of small explosions were heard at the start of a minute-long video of the fire, uploaded by Facebook user Asik Ali.

The video showed thick, black smoke billowing out of a corner corridor as residents shouted warnings to each other.

SCDF officers next responded to a fire at a coffee shop in Block 851, Jurong West Street 81, at around 10.40am.

They took 15 minutes to extinguish the blaze - which reportedly originated from cooking equipment - using two water jets.

Twenty coffee-shop patrons fled from the scene of the fire, while 10 residents from the block's upper floors were evacuated by the SCDF and police as a precautionary measure.

An SCDF spokesman said three people complained of breathlessness. "They were assessed by paramedics at the scene but refused to be taken to hospital," the spokesman added.

In the last incident, a vegetation fire took place in an open field beside Block 256, Sumang Walk, in Punggol at around 1.15pm.

SCDF said the flames engulfed an area measuring about 30m by 30m. Two water jets were used to extinguish the blaze.

A total of 94 vegetation fires were recorded last month.

On March 29 alone, the SCDF put out 20 fires involving pockets of vegetation.
