The opening weekend of Voilah!, the annual French arts and culture festival, kicked off in Singapore yesterday with the Lumineoles Ballet.

The show, originally commissioned for the Lyon Festival of Lights, features brightly illuminated coloured kites that dance gracefully in the air, creating beautiful shapes while making their way from Clifford Square to the ArtScience Museum.

Each helium-filled kite, measuring 15m by 7m, is guided solely with strings by one person. There will be another two 15-minute performances at 7.45pm and 8.45pm today at Gardens by the Bay near the Supertree Grove.

The festival runs for seven weeks till May 31.
