SINGAPORE - The Thai Chief of Defence Forces Sommai Kaotira has made his first official visit to Singapore.

General Sommai called on Defence Minister Ng Eng Hen on the sidelines of the Singapore Airshow, which he visited on Tuesday (Feb 16) morning, the Ministry of Defence (Mindef) said in a statement.

The airshow is being held at the Changi Exhibition Centre from Tuesday to Sunday (Feb 16 to 21).

He also called on Chief of Defence Force major-general Perry Lim and inspected a Guard of Honour at Mindef on Monday.

General Sommai's visit, from Feb 15 to 17, underscores the "close and long-standing" defence relations between Singapore and Thailand, Mindef said.

Both armed forces interact regularly through high-level visits, professional exchanges and regular military exercises.

The annual exercise Cobra Gold is being held in Thailand from Feb 9 to 19.

"Such interactions have deepened friendships and mutual understanding between personnel of both armed forces," Mindef said.
