Taxi driver in Pasir Ris crash dies from injuries

SINGAPORE - A taxi driver in his 70s who was captured on video crashing into a car has died from his injuries, MP for Pasir Ris-Punggol GRC Zainal Sapari said on his Facebook page on Monday.

Mr Zainal, who had been in a car behind the two vehicles when the incident happened on Saturday, uploaded footage from his car camera of the crash, which he described as "horrific".

On Monday, he wrote on his Facebook page that the taxi driver's family told him that the man had died. Mr Zainal, who had rendered help when the accident happened, said he was saddened to hear the news.

"Family shared that their father has been driving taxi for a long time and is a very careful driver. Hopefully, the police investigation will shed light on this accident. Best for public to stop speculating and offer our sincere condolences to the family instead," he wrote.

The accident happened along Pasir Ris Drive 3, near Greenview Secondary School, at about 1.30pm on Saturday.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said that three people were injured in the incident, including the taxi driver. They were taken to Changi General Hospital.
