SINGAPORE - A taxi was seen engulfed in flames while travelling on the East Coast Parkway (ECP) on Sunday (Nov 29) night.

Straits Times reader Irene Kew was in a cab near East Coast Park and snapped a photo, which showed the front half of the blue Comfort taxi on fire.

Ms Kew said she spotted a man, who appeared to be the driver, standing a safe distance from the taxi. He appeared flustered and was on the phone.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said it was alerted to the incident along the expressway (towards the city) at around 9.30pm.

A fire engine and a red rhino were dispatched. SCDF officers put out the fire, which involved the vehicle's engine compartment, using a water jet and a compressed air foam backpack.

No injuries were reported, and the cause of the fire is being investigated.
