SINGAPORE - A taxi caught fire in Woodlands on Saturday morning (Feb 17), though the driver managed to escape unhurt.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) was alerted to a case of a taxi on fire at the junction of Woodlands Avenue 2 and Woodlands Avenue 5 at about 9am.

A video posted in Telegram channel SGRoad Blocks / Traffic News on Sunday showed the bonnet of the Silvercab engulfed in flames.

At least one explosion was heard and thick plumes of black smoke could be seen.

Several photos and videos sent to online portal Stomp show SCDF officers at the scene.

A witness told Stomp that the driver had got out of the vehicle before it caught fire.

"The fire, which involved the engine compartment of the taxi, was extinguished by SCDF using one water jet," said an SCDF spokesman.
