Mr Tan flagged off more than 8,000 participants. The walk was one of his last events as minister, as he will resign from his Cabinet post tomorrow and be nominated as Speaker of Parliament by Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong. The walk was organised by Marina Bay Sands and the Community Chest, which supports about 80 charities. It raised $1.77 million.
