SINGAPORE - Taiwanese singer-host Hao Hao was crowned the best male getai singer at the annual Shin Min-Wanbao Getai Awards 2014 on Sunday evening.
The 33-year-old was also named one of the top 10 most popular getai artistes at the annual awards.
Organised by Singapore Press Holdings' Chinese evening newspapers Shin Min Daily News and Lianhe Wanbao, the awards honour the best talents in the getai industry.
A total of 19 awards including the top 10 most popular getai artistes, most popular newcomer and best costume were handed out.
The best female getai singer went to 32-year-old Malaysian Wen Si Ting.
The event was held at Suntec Singapore Convention and Exhibition Centre and was attended by Minister for Culture, Community and Youth Lawrence Wong. More than 6,000 people attended and about $50,000 was raised through ticket sales and donations from sponsors. The money will be donated to Geylang East Home for the Aged, Singapore Chung Hwa Medical Institution and President's Challenge 2014.
