Syariah legal clinics now available at SCWO

LEGAL clinics that provide advice on matters pertaining to Syariah Law are now offered at the Singapore Council of Women's Organisations (SCWO).

Volunteer lawyers who are conversant in Syariah Law will be available at the SCWO centre to assist with legal advice for Muslim women. The first legal clinic was held on Jan 21.

Previously, legal clinics on Syariah Law issues were offered only at Jamiyah Singapore and some mosques. The Law Society of Singapore's Muslim Law Practice Committee assisted the SCWO in setting up of the legal clinics.

The legal clinics at SCWO run on an appointment-only basis, and are held between 6.30 and 8.30 p.m on the third Monday of each month. They are open to all women in Singapore with an income cap criteria.
