Suspected housebreaker detained by victims, subsequently arrested

The police have arrested a 29-year-old man for allegedly stealing from a workers' dormitory along Kian Teck Lane, around Boon Lay.

On Monday afternoon, officers from the Jurong Police Division responded to a case of items being stolen from a dormitory room. These included two wallets containing close to $100 in cash and a mobile phone.

The suspect is believed to have entered the dormitory room through an open window at about 11am on Monday and stolen from the two people.

The Straits Times understands that the victims detained the suspect, who was then interviewed by the police upon their arrival, and then placed under arrest.

If convicted of housebreaking and theft by day, the man can be jailed between three and 10 years.

Commander of the Jurong Police Division, Deputy Assistant Commissioner of Police (DAC) Wilson Lim reminded the public to safeguard their valuables at all times.
