Striking start to UOB's charity CNY dinner

United Overseas Bank deputy chairman and chief executive Wee Ee Cheong striking a taiko drum yesterday to kick-start the bank's Commercial Banking Lunar New Year reception at the Pan Pacific Hotel. With him are Mr Frederick Chin (centre), managing director and head of group wholesale banking, and Mr Eric Tham, managing director and head of group commercial banking. Eurokars Group executive chairman Karsono Kwee made the winning bid of $88,888 for a specially commissioned pottery piece by Cultural Medallion recipient Iskandar Jalil at the charity dinner, contributing to the more than $1.6 million raised at the event. The money will be donated to The Straits Times School Pocket Money Fund and The Business Times Budding Artists Fund. SPD and The Red Pencil Singapore are also beneficiaries.
