Nicoll Drive, which hugs the eastern coastline, is being raised by up to 80cm, in anticipation of rising sea levels brought on by climate change. The elevation of the 1km, two-lane dual carriageway is the first road-raising project of its kind in Singapore. The Land Transport Authority said the works will be completed by the middle of the year. Scientists have warned that rising sea levels will have an adverse impact on Singapore's coastlines.
