ST reader lands car on fourth attempt

Fourth time's the charm for Mr Subramaniam Darmalingam, who won a Volkswagen Jetta 1.4 TSI sedan at The Straits Times - Volkswagen True Picture of Trust contest.

For the past three years, the 40-year-old had been eyeing the grand prize of the annual contest organised by this newspaper to reward readers.

Yesterday, the sales manager beat almost 1,000 participants, who first had to fold their entry forms into a paper airplane and fly it into the open window of the car to qualify for the main draw.

Only 71 successfully hit the mark, and out of these entries, Mr Subramaniam's was picked as the winner at yesterday's draw held at Suntec City.

Besides the contest, guests at the event could also get their pictures taken by Straits Times photographers, and caricatures drawn by the newspaper's artists for $15 each. All proceeds will go to The Straits Times School Pocket Money Fund.

Straits Times editor Han Fook Kwang said: 'It's not often our artists and photographers get a chance to interact with readers and this was a wonderful opportunity to do so and for a worthy cause.'
