SINGAPORE - With a crisis as far-reaching and complex as climate change, can individual actions really move the needle? How have Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg’s efforts actually translated into action?

Mr Veerappan Swaminathan, chief executive officer of consultancy Sustainable Living Lab (SL2) Group; and National University of Singapore assistant professor Alisius Leong will share their thoughts on such questions on The Straits Times’ Green Pulse podcast, hosted by Straits Times correspondents Shabana Begum and Ang Qing. The dialogue will provide a South-east Asian perspective on climate change and environmental issues.

Prof Leong’s research interests include investigating how public opinion towards environmental and health issues are shaped, while Mr Veerappan is also the co-chair of the Climate Action Singapore Alliance and a member of the SGTech Sustainability Steering Committee.

This is the sixth and final ST Podcasts Live event, which will be held at SPH Media on Dec 2. ST Podcasts Live is a series launched in 2025 to commemorate ST’s 180th anniversary.

Previous editions of the live podcast covered a variety of topics, ranging from how people can build meaningful careers to conversations with rising local musicians Abangsapau and Regina Song about their careers.

The Dec 2 event will feature a second podcast recording, which discusses whether Singapore’s efforts to green its transportation are sufficient, and how individuals can play their part.

The Government has implemented various measures to develop greener transport, such as the Electric Vehicle Common Charger Grant, which has co-funded the installation of 2,000 electric vehicle chargers at some 673 condominiums.

But is more nudging needed in this area?

ST’s Wheel Insights podcast, hosted by ST senior transport correspondent Lee Nian Tjoe, will discuss this with Mr Andrey Berdichevskiy, partner and associate director of Boston Consulting Group; and Professor S. Viswanathan from Nanyang Business School.

Mr Berdichevskiy leads the firm’s South-east Asia Centre for Climate and Sustainability and the Centre for Mobility Innovation in Asia-Pacific. Prof Viswanathan teaches about corporate sustainability, decarbonisation and the circular economy.

Wheel Insights is a monthly podcast series examining public and private transport issues in Singapore.

The Dec 2 event will be hosted by Kiss 92FM deejay Kim Anne Tan. Guests in the audience will be able to pose questions to the panellists during the Q&A segment.
