SINGAPORE - The year-end family trip to Hong Kong was meant to be a birthday gift to her mother, but Ms Sharon Long is now considering cancelling it.

Ms Long, 37, made arrangements for the week-long December holiday about two months ago, when protests against a controversial extradition Bill there had not yet grown violent.
