SMRT confirms track fault as cause of morning delay

Train passengers on the North-South line faced a longer travelling time early Wednesday morning due to a track fault.

The problem, said SMRT spokesman Ms Kalai Natarajan in a statement, occured between Raffles Place and Marina Bay at 7.15am. This resulted in a longer journey time of up to 20 minutes during this period, she added.

Engineers were deployed to solve the problem. Meanwhile to ease congestion southbound trains from Raffles Place were diverted to turn around at Outram Park station.

Announcements were also made to inform passengers about the issue and SMRT activated buses for seven trunk services at 7.51am between Raffles Place and Marina Bay stations. Train service resumed at 8.22am.
