The bus passenger, who was injured on Sunday when the bus he was travelling in overturned, was discharged from National University Hospital on Monday morning.

At the time of the accident, there were only two passengers in the bus. One died at the accident scene. The driver is currently still warded at NUH and his condition is said to be stable.

The 39-year-old driver said he lost control of the vehicle, when he was trying to make the turn into Dairy Farm Road. The China national told Lianhe Zaobao that he had stepped on the brakes to decrease the bus' speed, but the bus ''suddenly went crazy'' and its speed kept climbing.

''I couldn't control it at all,'' said the Henan native, who has been driving the service 700A route for about a year.

In its latest statement on Monday afternoon, SMRT said it is working closely with the police on this investigation. ''Our hearts are with the families of those affected. We are doing our best to support and assist the injured and family of the deceased,'' said the SMRT spokesman.
