Smoke reported on train during morning rush commute, passengers evacuated

A fire broke out at Newton MRT on Wednesday morning at 9am, causing a delay on the North-South line between Woodlands MRT and Marina Bay MRT stations.

Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) fire engines were deployed at the scene, along with an ambulance, though it is not yet known if anyone was injured.

The SCDF said a fire broke out on the track, while passengers reported smoke filling the station and train platform.

Train services on the North-South have been affected, and there are no train services between Newton and Toa Payoh towards Jurong East.

Free public and shuttle buses are available at affected stations between Toa Payoh and Newton.
