Six teachers receive top teaching award from President Tony Tan

Six teachers received the President's Award for Teachers - the nation's most prestigious teaching accolade - from President Tony Tan Keng Yam on Thursday evening.

Madam Shakila Jamal Mohamed from Da Qiao Primary; Madam Chee Mui Choo from Xinghua Primary; Mr Lee Beng Wah from Bedok Green Secondary; Madam Lee Yee Tyng from Hougang Secondary; Ms Lim Chye Ling from Kent Ridge Secondary; and Madam Chan Puay San from Innova Junior College received their awards at the Istana.

A total of 3,043 teachers were nominated for the awards and eventually 13 finalists were picked. The final six winners were selected by a panel chaired by head of the Government Parliamentary Committee for Education, Lim Biow Chuan,

The President's Award for Teachers was introduced in 1998 and honours teachers who have served for at least ten years and who have inspired both their students and their colleagues.
