Singapore supports UN resolution over Yemen crisis

SINGAPORE - Singapore supports the United Nations' adoption of a resolution calling for an end to the violence in Yemen, according to a spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA).

"Singapore welcomes the adoption of UNSCR 2216 on the situation in Yemen. We reiterate our concern about the deteriorating humanitarian situation in Yemen, and support the call for all parties to facilitate the delivery of humanitarian assistance as well as the protection and evacuation of civilians," said the spokesman.

The resolution, adopted by UN Security Council early this week, demands that all parties in war-torn Yemen, in particular the Houthis, "immediately and unconditionally" end violence.

It also warns against unilateral actions that threaten political transition.

"We join the call for all parties in Yemen to resolve their differences through dialogue and consultation to reach a political solution as brokered by the Gulf Cooperation Council and the good offices of the United Nations Secretary-General," said the MFA spokesman.
