Singapore PM Lee meets US Fed Chair Janet Yellen for first time

WASHINGTON - Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong met with United States Federal Reserve chairman Janet Yellen on Tuesday, for the first time since Ms Yellen took the reins at the US central bank.

The two had an in-depth exchange of views on developments in the US and Singapore, according to a statement from the Prime Minister's Office (PMO).

They also discussed global financial developments, particularly in Asia and Europe, and how these would affect international financial markets.

In addition, Mr Lee and Ms Yellen affirmed the strength of bilateral relations between Singapore and the US, the PMO said.

Mr Lee is scheduled to speak at a session held by the US-based think tank Council on Foreign Relations, as well as at a reception to mark the 10th anniversary of the US-Singapore Free Trade Agreement later on Tuesday (US time).
