Singapore Maritime Week to hit the shores here in April

The eighth edition of the Singapore Maritime Week will take place from April 7 to April 12 this year.

Organised by the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA), the event will once again gather the international maritime community in Singapore for a week of conferences, dialogues, exhibitions and social events.

Mr James Hughes-Hallet, chairman of global group John Swire & Sons Limited, will speak at this year's Singapore Maritime Lecture on April 10. Previous speakers include former Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew and Mr Koji Sekimizu, Secretary-General of the International Maritime Organization.

Like previous years, the maritime week will offer public outreach programmes A free exhibition titled "An Insight into Maritime Singapore" will be held at Plaza Singapura from April 1 to April 7, and display maritime artefacts and exhibits.

On April 7, the MPA will hold the "Amazing Maritime Adventure", a series of maritime-themed games, quizzes and activities. The public can take part by forming teams of four and signing up at www.smw.sg/adventure.html. A T-shirt design competition will also be held.

MPA chief executive Lam Yi Young said he was happy to note the event has received strong support from the maritime community.
