The Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT) satellite campus at Nanyang Polytechnic (NYP) in Ang Mo Kio will be ready by 2014.
The seven-storey building will house about 900 students taking degree courses in science and engineering. Five degree programmes offered by three overseas university partners of SIT are already being conducted at NYP. A sixth one in electrical power engineering offered by Newcastle University in the United Kingdom, will start in August.
"This partnership with reputable institutions provides our poly graduates...with more opportunities to upgrade and pursue degree-level education," said chairman of the NYP board of governors Tan Pheng Hock at a groundbreaking ceremony for the new building on Tuesday.
SIT has a distributed campus model where an SIT building is constructed on the grounds of each of the five polytechnics here.
