SINGAPORE – More than 1,000 personnel from 27 nations, including Singapore, took part in a defence exercise from Feb 24 to 28 that tested participants’ responses to simulated cyber attacks.
Defence Cyber Marvel (DCM) involves a series of scenario-based challenges that test participants in identifying and mitigating simulated cyber attacks in a realistic operational environment, said the Ministry of Defence (Mindef) in a statement on March 1.
The fourth edition of the exercise, conducted by the British Army Cyber Association, was held in Seoul, South Korea.
Singapore’s Cyber Defence Group (CDG) – from the Singapore Armed Forces’ Digital and Intelligence Service (DIS) – participated remotely from Singapore with its British Army counterparts.
“Our cyber defenders displayed a high level of professionalism and competency throughout the exercise,” said the commander of CDG, Senior Lieutenant-Colonel Mok Chuan Hao.
He added: “This exercise was also a valuable opportunity to benchmark best practices and learn from our British counterparts, gleaning insights that will help us grow further.”
The British Armed Forces’ team lead, Captain Andy Humphrys, praised the DIS team’s “high level of technical competency, professionalism and expertise during the exercise”.
“(The DIS team) definitely complemented and worked very well with the United Kingdom’s Ministry of Defence team,” he said.
DIS has participated in Defence Cyber Marvel since 2024.
“DCM brings together cyber defenders from armed forces, government agencies and industry partners to learn, share best practices and strengthen collective cyber-security capabilities in an evolving digital threat landscape,” said Mindef in its statement.
It added that participation with the British Armed Forces underscores the warm and longstanding bilateral defence relations between Singapore and the United Kingdom.
