Singapore and Barbados sign open skies deal

Singapore has inked an open skies deal with Barbados that gives carriers full rights to operate as many flights as they want between the two nations.

Without strong demand for air services between the two points, it is unlikely the agreement will lead to actual flights, industry analysts said.

Sill, the deal sealed on Wednesday between Transport Minister Lui Tuck Yew and Ms Maxine McClean, Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade Minister of Barbados, signifies Singapore's commitment to liberal skies, said the analysts.

The air meeting was held on the sidelines of the Caribbean Community High-Level Ministerial Exchange Visit in Singapore, the Transport Ministry said in a statement.

Mr Lui said: "The signing of this OSA (open skies agreement) reflects the warm bilateral ties between Singapore and Barbados, and underscores both countries' commitment to establish a fully liberal air services framework allowing carriers to react quickly to market demand when opportunities arise."
